Shrink Raw

What does ShrinkRaw do?

ShrinkRaw has been designed for people, who take photographs with digital cameras, and store images in so-called RAW format. ShrinkRaw removes some unused parts of these raw images, leaving camera sensor data and EXIF tags untouched.

Which digital cameras are supported?

At the moment, ShrinkRaw supports Nikon (filename extension .NEF) and Konica Minolta (filename extension .MRW) digital cameras. Support for other camera vendors might be added in the future.

How much disk space can be saved?

Using ShrinkRaw, about 15% of an image file can be thrown away. So, for example, if you have 10 GB photo collection, you save about 1.5 GB of disk space.

What is really removed from RAW files?

Besides for the raw sensor image data, RAW files keep JPEG version of the image (for in-camera previewing) and a small thumbnail. ShrinkRaw removes both.
